Speed Limits and Roads in South Korea

Understand the different speed limits and types of road in South Korea...

Motorways

  • The speed limit on Korean motorways is 100 Km/h and the minimum speed allowed is 50 Km/h

National roads

  • The speed limit is 80 or 90 Km/h (indicated on road signs) and the minimum speed is 30 Km/h
  • For a road with less than two lanes, the speed limit is 60 Km/h

Regional roads

  • The speed limit is 80 or 90 Km/h (indicated on road signs)

Limited visibility

  • When it is raining, or the road is covered by up to 20mm of snow, the speed limit must be reduced by 20 percent of the maximum speed allowed
  • Where visibility is less than 100m, or the road surface is frozen or covered with more than 20mm of snow, the speed limit must be reduced by 50 percent of the maximum speed allowed
